DISTANCE LEARNING
Students living outside the greater New York area may participate in the One Spirit Interfaith Seminary training via our distance learning program. Distance learning students receive monthly audio recordings of the actual class sessions held in New York. CD’s, in MP3 format, arrive approximately one week after the actual class has taken place. All handouts, supporting materials, and audio files from each class are available for download from the private “students' section” of our website. Once enrolled, students are given passwords to the site and are able to access these materials.
A helpful and popular enhancement to the distance learning program is student participation in a class listserve (group e-mail correspondence). A staff member is available to provide assistance to those students who are less familiar with on-line technology.
Distance learning students are expected to participate in study groups, either with other students in their region or via conference calls or on-line chats. When possible, the mentor assigned to a corresponding student will be from their general geographic area. Telephone support from your dean and the educational staff is also available.
Distance learning is inherently a different experience than in-residence study. It requires a greater degree of independence and self-initiative. Nevertheless, most distance learning students find the training program to be a rich and life-enhancing experience, and develop a strong sense of spiritual community with their classmates and colleagues over the course of the two-year training. Distance learning students are encouraged to attend class whenever feasible. |
